good news and bad news on this.
I literally just watched the first...10-15 min of the first episode. At first, I thought; 'eh, lets give this one a try'. If I'm not mistaken, it's made by "the asylum", which is a production company who make low budget movies (bad low budget movies). BUT...it's zombies. It's a TV show..so it's gotta be at least viewable right? (I've seen WAY too many bad zombie movies...but this is a TV show...it's gotta have some kind of budget right?)
that 10-15 minutes were semi-rushed, but I just wanted a teaser/taste of it. I was hoping when I started watching it, i'd get sucked right in and it'd be a new and fun zombie show to watch. I know ye can't get a whole lot out of 15 minutes. I mean, even the walking dead doesn't have anything cool happen in the first 15 minutes (does rick even get out of the hospital in 15 min?).
BUT, the difference between Z nation and The Walking Dead (again, this isn't a fair comparison by any stretch of the imagination. Ye can't compare a very successful 4-5 seasons of a great zombie show with another zombie tv show that's just starting)...
...The Walking Dead tv show is legit believable. From Shane and Rick talking in the cop car, to Rick getting out of the hospital, walking around the empty city etc, all the way to the tank. It's totally believable. When I watch it, I'm totally sucked in!
I watched 10-15 minutes of Z nation. NOTE; ye can't get much in 10-15 minutes. BUT, I did pause the show because I began to notice multiple issues which started to bother me.
Here's where I begin, and I'm sure I'll have more to come; ....................................
Z nation Season 1 Episode 1
episode opens up to shots of random violence as a news anchor talks about the president being dead and no cure (cliche much?). We then find out what "LINK" (Harold Perrineau) has been doing since Neo killed "smith" in the 3rd MATRIX movie. (Actually, I guess it wasn't NEO who killed smith. Neo allowed the A.I. to jack into him so when SMITH tried to clone himself with NEO, the A.I. was able to CTRL+ALT+DEL his ass! So, "LINK" is now a militar guy with a big gun (I didn't catch his name yet). He and some other dude run away from a group of 'ragers' (zombies that full out sprint at you like in 28 days later, which by the way, Harold Perrineau was also in).
Harold and his buddy separate themselves from the dead, using a prison bar door, and start shooting their machines guns ferociously at the zombies in a long hallway. Dumb thing is, the zombies are COVERING the hallway, and there were at least a couple dozen (or more) shots fired from their large guns, at pretty much point blank range, and they only seemed to hit a couple zombies.
There's a cheezy scene at some military command base where DJ Qualls, who seems to always play nerdy guys, starts firing off "delta, x-ray, delta" to make himself sound military smart and finds himself communicating with Harold Perrineau.
Harold runs up to another level of the building where there are more dead, though these seems much more calm (they're not sprinting at him), they're waddling at him. He takes it out easily, then shoots a couple zombies from a far distance, asking the question, how come he can shoot som'n from a far distance, but can't shoot something from point blank range.
that's about as far as I got. So far, very not impressed...but I'll keep checkin' it out. It deserves a fair shot.
And zombies!!!

How's the melodrama? That's usually what kills 98% of all tv shows for me. So many shows have good ideas, then they fill it up with characters and dialogue written by 13 year old 80's soap opera fans. It's embarrassing. Yes, I'm talking to YOU Arrow, Once Upon a Time, and Haven.
