Postedthis on my FB when i was in work an hour ago-it was inevitable. So much for no spin offs eh Kirkman?
AMC have announced they are in the initial stages of development on what they're calling a "companion" series to The Walking Dead. Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are executive producing with the series, aimed to debut in 2015. While The Walking Dead has taken Kirkman's comic book as its inspiration, using most of the same characters (albeit often then veering in its own directions), the new series will be about a different group of survivors. It remains to be seen if we'll meet any of the new characters first on The Walking Dead or if the show will take place in such an entirely different area of the world, that wouldn't be possible. “Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s president and general manager. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” said Kirkman. “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.” This is the second spinoff series AMC have announced in the past week, on the heels of confirming they are moving forward with the Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul.

Hmm. I honestly don't know how to feel about this. The main show has it's own flaws but that is because it is held down by the comics. It can be good if Kirkman is in charge but it will be horrible if their target audience are the Daryl fan types.

So basically it'll be the same show, just with different people in similar situations. yeah, that'll be good. It'd be hilarious if this show, with it's all new cast of characters not from TWD, followed the storylines from the comic to a T.
I really wanna bitch about this, but I already lost my shit in the merch thread. Outta gas for the moment.

... but it will be horrible if their target audience are the Daryl fan types. I Guarantee you it will be that. And Daryl will make a cameo at some point.

AMC cancels The Killing - a show 1000 times better than the Walking dead. And this is what they're replacing it with? What a bucket of cunts they've got over there.

Guaranteed that during sweeps ratings grab in the future, these two shows "cross-over" for a "epic dramatic meeting".
Im so sick of bitching about this crap that I feel numb about it. I've reached the end of my Walking Dead saturation point. Almost looking forward to its popularity demise

I agree fully Zombiehero-the comic book series I once loved has well and truly had a bullet in its head thanks to shit like this, among other inane garbage.
Im numb to it and just brush it off-like that uncle of yours that was an 80s metaller when you were 5 and you thought was cool but is now a balding single father in a menial job in his early 40s

well, hopefully the new show wont have someone wake up after the fact...I want to see a show that shows the progress of the zombie epidemic, from the beginning to collapse.
how society fails, looting for supplies in the early stages of the collapse, etc, etc.

My guess Jimbo, it takes place at the same time as the walking dead is now. It will give them the option of a crossover. You might only get the fall of society in flashbacks. That's my guess at least

I'm all for the spin-off if it is completely original and in a completely different location. If it's connected to the main story, it better be a story we haven't been shown like maybe the story of how the Kingdom, Hilltop, or even the Saviors came to be. Maybe the hunters as well. It can be a mini series that leads up to when they meet Rick's group and the spin-off can end there.

I would rather just them just leave the comic alone now-they have raped it enough

That's why I say they give us a story we haven't seen. The problem with the show is that has to follow the comic yet be a good adaptation. If they just do a show on a group other than Rick's whether we have seen them before or not should be easy to do.
